She is a workaholic – there is no point in denying it. Because the young YouTuber, pianist and composer Nahre Sol, who is a guest of the Elbphilharmonie as a »Creator in Residence« in its 2023/24 season, keeps meticulous records about how she organises her life. For virtually every day, she scribbles a 24-hour pie chart and what routinely takes up the most room is neither hobbies nor sleep nor sweet idleness. This is because Nahre Sol’s work is, however, also her pleasure and within it she can realise many of her talents and affinities – piano playing, composing, contemplating, consulting interesting, inspiring people and giving free rein to her inquisitiveness about music – the large amount of red in her daily pie chart does not feel so bad after work.
Nahre Sol is currently probably one of the most successful YouTube greats of all in the field of classical music. Her contributions are thoroughly researched, entertaining, educational and inspiring and you can almost always watch this American with Korean roots as a musician in action as well.
She was already in the building twice for a couple of days before the season started. After that, Nahre Sol made use of her residency over longer periods. In so doing, she lived somewhere else each time and repeatedly came up with new questions for her videos. Sometimes, she was concerned with things that happened at the Elbphilharmonie; sometimes, she used the building and its facilities to create new films on other topics for her own YouTube channel.
In the podcast, she talks about her experiences in the Hanseatic city, about her family and the path she took that led her to where she is right now. It is about wanderlust and homesickness, bebop and K-Pop, Franz Liszt and 20th century classical music, calligraphy and about where the true roots are of this media nomad inspired so much by art and music.
