Famous for their crystal-clear sound, the Tallis Scholars from the UK have been the world’s leading a-capella ensemble since they were formed 50 years ago. During their anniversary tour with their founder Peter Phillips conducting, they will be visiting the Elbphilharmonie for the first time as part of the Hamburg International Music Festival. In keeping with the festival theme, the programme is all about »love«. The singers present a variety of compositions about King Solomon’s »Song of Songs« from the Bible.
The programme ranges from the 16th century and composers such as Orlando di Lasso to the present day and Judith Weir, the first woman to be given the title »Master of the King’s Music« – and who is thereby responsible for new music for the British royal family.
