Dieter Schnebel is the undisputed grandmaster of the composed spoken performance. The composer and theologist has tried out pretty much everything that the human voice is capable of in his works. Sarah Maria Sun now presents the new version of Schnebel’s »Yes I Will Yes«.
Quatuor Diotima places Schnebel’s music in context with the works of predecessors and contemporaries. Arnold Schönberg’s String Quartet No. 2 in F-sharp minor dates from 1908 and marks the beginning of the modern age in musical terms: here, Schönberg breaks through the boundaries of tonality and genre by adding a soprano to the ensemble. The text she sings is the work’s programme: »Ich fühle Luft von anderen Planeten« (I Feel Air from Another Planet). Pierre Boulez made their own contributions to the ongoing project: modern music.
