Concert for a good cause

Every year, the German Federal President sends out invitations to a charity concert with top-class orchestras, conductors and soloists; the concert is given in a different federal state each time. The proceeds from the concert series, originally set up by Richard von Weizsäcker in 1988, benefit social or cultural organisations. This year, a part of the the concert proceeds will be used to support projects that supply medical care to the homeless. In 2022 it is Hamburg’s turn to host the event, which will take place in the spectacular concert hall by the Elbe River together with the Elbphilharmonie’s orchestra in residence. Conductor Alan Gilbert leads the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, with the outstanding Chinese pianist Yuja Wang as guest soloist.
