»Songs for Maya« – Lullaby songs by Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Richard Wagner and others
Sharing the joy of motherhood
A world-famous opera singer is working on an album of lullabies – and suddenly discovers that she is pregnant. Olga Peretyatko dedicated the »Songs for Maya« to her first-born daughter, and the record is close to her heart. Why does an opera star record lullabies? The native of St Petersburg answers pragmatically: »I did some research on YouTube, and there are so many bad-quality playlists that our children listen to that I decided to improve on them!«
And improve on them she certainly has. Accompanied by pianist Semjon Skigin, the award-winning soprano performs 20 of her favourite songs, from classical music through folk to jazz, in a whole number of different languages. Peretyatko says that she wants to impart such values as love, beauty, tenderness and acceptance. A homage to humanity and a delight for the ears – of adults as well as young children.
