Hélène Grimaud / Piano Recital
Hamburg International Music Festival
She is the impressionist among the pianists, the timbre expert, who like a painter using a fine brush carefully applies the thousands of tones within a concert and combines them together into a masterpiece before the audience. The concert programme of the French pianist Hélène Grimaud follows a particular idea: as a synesthetic she recognises the sound and colour relationship among the works of different composers. After her Elbphilharmonie debut in April 2017 accompanied by atmospheric photographs by Mat Hennek, Grimaud dives into the cosmos of the impressionists and draws connecting lines from Debussy and Satie to the Romantic sounds of Chopin.
