Milestone of Indian silent film

50,000 extras, 300 camels and the entire army of Jaipur: film director and Bollywood pioneer Franz Osten’s »Shiraz« (1928) was a milestone in Indian silent film. With live music, Anoushka Shankar and her ensemble breathe new life into the love story based on the commissioning of the Taj Mahal.
