Concerts for Hamburg
NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Vilde Frang / Thomas Hengelbrock
In the wake of its overwhelming success, a second season of the concert series initiated by Thomas Hengelbrock will be put on in 2018: an hour of classical music in the Grand Hall at the Elbphilharmonie, played by the resident orchestra under the baton of its principal conductor. No dress regulations, no rules of etiquette, just a relaxed atmosphere!
For the first programme in the series, Thomas Hengelbrock and his musicians have invited the young Norwegian star violinist Vilde Frang to join them: she can be heard as the soloist in Robert Schumann’s romantic Fantasia for Violin & Orchestra. After the interval the orchestra performs Antonín Dvořák’s lyrical Eighth Symphony, for which the landscape of the composer’s native Czechoslovakia served as inspiration.
