For many classical music lovers, the »Teatime Classics« in the Laeiszhalle’s charming Brahms Foyer has been a Saturday afternoon highlight for a long time already. From 15:00, tea and coffee specialities, delicious cakes and pastries are served in the foyer, followed by a delightful one-hour concert.

What more could a music lover wish for? The concert series is also a springboard for talented young musicians. The artists who – after rounds of competition – have proven themselves before this attentive audience can look forward to performing in major concert halls and chamber music festivals in the future.

This season, as always, the selection of performers is highly diverse. The opening concert is in the capable hands of the Vision String Quartet, which masters not only the »serious« works of Beethoven, but also jazz and pop. The Palestinian pianist Iyad Sughayer is regarded as a wunderkind, similar to the Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniţă, who recently won the legendary Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Violinist Louise Wehr, Trio Marie and this year’s winner of the renowned Canadian string quartet competition in Banff (still to be announced) round off the series. »Teatime Classics« is remaining in the neo-baroque atmosphere of the Laieszhalle even after the opening of the Elbphilharmonie.
