The Bavarian State Opera enjoys an outstanding international reputation. Its orchestra, under the baton of General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski, is set to get this first-rate subscription series off to an exciting start, presenting – very appropriately! – works by the two opera greats Wagner and Strauss. Sir Simon Rattle has a baroque opera in tow this time around, bringing Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s version of the ancient myth of Medea to the stage with Magdalena Kožená in the title role. The Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski is also inbound with a recital that frames works by Béla Bartók and his fellow countryman Karol Szymanowski alongside two Bach partitas. And last but not least, the programme includes two weighty symphonies by Anton Bruckner whose 200th birthday the music world is celebrating in 2024.
