Originally planned for the Elbphilharmonie, a legendary concert took place at the Laeiszhalle in September 2012: the celebrated Lucerne Festival Orchestra, put together by Claudio Abbado from the best musicians of the time, made a guest appearance under the direction of its founder and mentor. Twelve years later, the orchestra returns to Hamburg to actually perform at the Elbphilharmonie for the first time under the baton of Abbado’s successor Riccardo Chailly. The best orchestras from London and Paris also take to the stage under their charismatic chief conductors Sir Antonio Pappano and Klaus Mäkelä. Mitsuko Uchida and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra once again perform two piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the exceptional French pianist Alexandre Kantorow contributes a varied piano recital as the Elbphilharmonie’s new Artist in Residence.
