Thomas Hengelbrock and his Balthasar Neumann ensembles are a permanent fixture in Hamburg’s musical life and have had their own concert series at the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle for several years. This season, the original sound expert will conduct all three concerts himself. In addition to sacred works for choir and orchestra, including Johannes Brahms’s moving »Deutsches Requiem« and Felix Mendelssohn’s »Lobgesang« Symphony, Christoph Willibald Gluck’s weighty opera »Iphigénie en Tauride« was also planned, which has to be postponed to next season for organisational reasons.
