Music for Everyone For the whole family – discover the programme for children & families at the Elbphilharmonie, Laeiszhalle and in the city boroughs now.

The Elbphilharmonie is much more than just evening concerts. Alongside the classical concert programme, each season offers around 1,000 activities centred on making and experiencing music, aimed specially at children of all ages, families, adults, schools and kindergartens – not only at the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle, but also in the city’s other boroughs and their community centres.

The music education programme is made up of several components, addressing both beginners and professionals, and, of course, anyone who simply wants to listen to music. On this page, music lovers will find a wide selection of concerts and workshops, conveniently organised by age group. There are also participatory activities: ensembles and orchestras for every level of musical experience, as well as opportunities for professionals such as the Jazz Academy and the annual community project, the latter of which places a special focus on reaching participants from all parts of the city.

Under Elbphilharmonie PLUS, a range of original, small-scale formats is offered ahead of concerts, opening up new, often surprising and always personal perspectives on the music.

The programme for kindergartens and schools ranges from hands-on workshops exploring instruments to school concerts and the »Zukunfts-Musik« format for upper secondary school classes, where pupils attend a regular concert and meet the artists beforehand.

Take Part

Making music together is good for body and soul. That’s why, week after week, music lovers of all ages gather in the Elbphilharmonie Kaistudios to sing, play in orchestras and discover entirely new musical worlds. Five in-house ensembles for beginners and intermediate participants rehearse full concert programmes under professional guidance, performing them at the Elbphilharmonie and in community centres across Hamburg.

Orchesterinstrumente

Workshops

The Elbphilharmonie’s workshops make it easy to explore different musical worlds and try out instruments. They are divided into three areas: in »Klassiko«, participants can play the instruments of a symphony orchestra; in »Kreativ«, they can express their own creativity; and in »Kosmos«, they discover a wide range of soundscapes, such as the Indonesian gamelan.
