Reflektor Bill Frisell

The guitarist who transformed the sound of American music: a portrait of Bill Frisell in his »Reflektor«

»It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it« is generally applied to the spoken language. But it applies even more so to music, and in particular to jazz. The American jazz guitarist Bill Frisell has not only found this tone in a thousand nuances on the electric guitar, but he has also invented a whole world of Frisell tones. His playing mixes melancholy and asperity, floating passages and precise phrasing, the idyllic and the darkly unsettling to produce a distinctive style of exceptional eloquence. As an improvising chamber musician par excellence Frisell, who counts saxophonist Charles Lloyd, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Andrew Cyrille among his longstanding collaborators, blossoms best in small line-ups. After appearing at the »Reflektor John Zorn« in spring 2022, and several times at the Elbphilharmonie under his own name, he now shows this and other facets of his classic American sound panorama over a whole weekend with four of his favourite bands.
