Musicologist, master of the viola da gamba, early music icon – there are few artists with so comprehensive and deep an understanding of music as Jordi Savall. It goes without saying that people were looking forward to his Beethoven project, originally scheduled for the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth in 2020, when he planned to throw new light on these supposedly familiar symphonies. The coronavirus pandemic caused the project to be postponed more than once, so we can look forward all the more eagerly to three concerts with Savall and his period instrument chamber orchestra Le Concert des Nations at the Laeiszhalle.

The native of Catalonia then returns to his roots in January. For the Elbphilharmonie’s fifth anniversary Savall turns once more to the music that he compiled in 1991 for the film »Die siebente Saite« (released in English as »Tous les matins du monde«) from music by composers like Marin Marais and François Couperin, for which he was awarded the French film prize »César«.
