»He was possibly one of the most important people to convince me that music can be a wonderful profession,« says Jakub Hrůša about Leonard Bernstein – a conviction that made him decide as a young man to become a conductor. In his early forties, the affable Czech has made a name for himself as one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation: not only has he made his debut with all the world’s major orchestras, he is also designated director of music at the Royal Opera House in London. In Hamburg we can hear Hrůša'’s qualities on the rostrum for ourselves at no fewer than five concerts, three of which are scheduled for January with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, whose principal conductor he has been since 2016. A fourth evening finds him at the helm of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in a performance of the epoch-making Ninth Symphony by the great Austrian composer the ensemble is named after. And in May Hrůša shows his lively side with a programme that includes Gershwin and Rachmaninov’s »Symphonic Dances« – accompanied by the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia from Rome, with piano superstar Daniil Trifonov as the soloist.
