Brazilian Legends

A celebration of Brazilian music! For almost a week, the Elbphilharmonie will no longer be located on the Elbe River, but at the Copa Cabana, presenting the legends of that diverse country

There is much more to discover in Brazilian music than samba and bossa nova!

Marisa Monte enjoys superstar status in her native Brazil. For most of her 214 million countrymen, the sound of her voice is part of the soundtrack to their lives. With hits such as »Ainda Bem« and »Já sei Namorar«, she has not only sold millions of records, her songs can also be heard in TV series and soap operas.

Guitarist João Bosco has been delighting audiences with his music for more than 40 years. Together with the congenial cellist and arranger Jaques Morelenbaum, he not only shares a love of subtle melodies and rhythms, but also a concern for Brazil’s nature, which is literally threatening to go up in flames.

Vinícius Cantuária is a master of cool sensuality. For »Psychedelic Rio«, he forms a power trio with his Italian bandmates Paolo Andriolo and Roberto Rossi. Mônica Salmaso’s voice is soft, shimmering and languorous. Her project »Alma Lírica Brasileira« is a tender chamber music journey through the largest country in South America.

Guitar and piano virtuoso Egberto Gismonti combines his home country’s folk music with the world of classical music as a soloist. The magnificent orchestral colours that the gifted improviser elicits from his instruments have rightly earned him comparisons with the great Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.
