    »Future« is the motto of the Hamburg International Music Festival 2025, with Hamburg’s orchestras and top-class international guests once again putting together a varied programme from 1 May to 5 June for the glittering season finale.

    : Der Nino aus Wien

    He has brought the Wienerlied from the Heurigen and Beisln (the traditional inns of Vienna) to the clubs and concert halls: Der Nino aus Wien wins over audiences far beyond his homeland with his typical »Schmäh«, humour and rousing songs.

    : NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Janine Jansen

    The celebrated violinist Janine Jansen premieres a new violin concerto by the Swedish composer Britta Byström. This is followed by the 2nd Symphony by Edward Elgar, who is unjustly known almost exclusively for »Pomp & Circumstances«.

    : Ein Wintermärchen

    A musical and literary evening with actor Katharina Thalbach, top-class soloists such as Daniel Hope, and the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra. On the programme: joyful and reflective texts, and beautifully arranged Christmas carols.

    : 30 years Tetzlaff Quartet

    If that's not a reason to celebrate: the Tetzlaff Quartet, led by star violinist Christian Tetzlaff and his sister Tanja Tetzlaff on cello, has been known for excellence ever since it was founded. They will perform music by Brahms, Schönberg and Widman.

    : Ivo Pogorelich / Piano Recital

    He is one of the world’s most renowned pianists, an ingenious musical thinker and a profound interpreter. Ivo Pogorelich returns to the Elbphilharmonie with a virtuoso programme of Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin.

  • 18 December

    : Honegger: Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher

    French Oscar winner Marion Cottilard, a true Hollywood star, lends her voice to the Maid of Orléans in Honegger's dramatic oratorio. The music is provided by Alain Altinoglu and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony.

  • 17 January

    : The wedding of the Sun King

    It was the biggest celebration of the 17th century: the wedding of King Louis XIV, known as the »Sun King«. Not only was the décor incredibly pompous and splendid, but so was the music. Vincent and Le Poème Harmonique bring it back to life.

  • 21–24 November

    : Viva Napoli

    For centuries now, Naples has been a cultural melting pot that produced an enormous breadth of sensational music. The programme ranges from courtly dances of the Middle Ages to contemporary Canzone napoletana.

  • 22–29 January

    : Rising Stars

    Firmly positioned in the starting blocks for global careers ahead: six exceptional young musicians, selected by Europe’s major concert halls, perform at the Elbphilharmonie within the space of a week.

  • 26 January – 2 February

    : Amadeus, Amadeus

    For an entire week, an illustrious line-up of artists honours the gigantic oeuvre of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Jordi Savall comes with the Great Mass in C minor, Mitsuko Uchida with a piano concerto and René Jacobs conducts the opera »Idomeneo«.

    : Visions

    This splendid festival celebrating new music is entering its second round. Over the course of seven concerts, festival initiator Alan Gilbert and the outstanding radio orchestras perform 21st century music spanning the entire stylistic spectrum.

    : Vinci: Oratorio per la Madonna del Rosario

    This will be a historic moment: For the first time since it was written in the 17th century, this oratorio will be performed again. Vinci’s operas are regarded as true baroque fireworks – and this one will be no different. And in the best original sound!

  • 24 November / Laeiszhalle

    : Symphoniker Hamburg / Josef Špaček

    This concert oscillates sonorously between the Elbe and the Vltava, Hamburg and Prague. The Tragic Overture by Brahms from Hamburg meets music by Dvořák and Martinů from Prague. Czech violinist Josef Špaček shines on the solo violin.

  • 29 November / Laeiszhalle

    : Fabian Müller / Piano Recital

    Fabian Müller, who has enjoyed a truly stellar career in recent years, will perform in the »Master Pianists« series. For the solo recital in the Laeiszhalle, he presents Beethoven’s great »Waldstein Sonata« and the youthful 3rd Sonata by Brahms.

    : Chiaroscuro Quartet / Cédric Tiberghien

    Romantic composers sound unusually light and fresh here: the Chiaroscuro Quartet plays on period instruments, as does world-class pianist Cédric Tiberghien. Alongside Brahms and Schumann, Haydn, the »forefather« of the string quartet genre, will be heard.
